Viansa '23 North Coast Terra Rosé of Barbera
The Barbera from the Las Lomas vineyard is planted on gently sloping volcanic soils at 1,560 feet elevation. This vineyard site has cool evenings and well-draining soil that produces lovely grapes that have balanced acidity with a backbone of minerality. This wine jumps out of the glass with notes of red berries, white peach, and hints of river rocks. The mouthwatering palate has balanced flavors of strawberries, rhubarb, lemon blossoms, and the skin of stone fruits. Our Rosé of Barbera pairs well with warm days poolside, or while sitting on a porch swing enjoying a slight breeze. But also with poached shrimp with a peach and tomato caprese salad or olive tapenade appetizers.
Barbera is a popular red Italian grape varietal known for its deep color, full body, low tannins, and high acidity. Composed of 100% Barbera, we’re loving the Italian inspiration in this wine.
Whole clusters were hand-harvested, brought to the winery, destemmed, and held overnight in the press to pick up color, as well as increase the percentage of free run. The wine was settled in tank for 72 hours, and then racked very cleanly (under 50 NTU turbidity) to another tank for fermentation. Next, the juice was inoculated with Actiflore Rosé yeast, which was selected for its ability to heighten aromatics and ferment at cooler temperatures. Fermentation lasted three weeks before being racked of the heavy lees and aged in tank for two months until bottling.
